Faculty's Guide to Canvas

Customizing the Course Navigation Menu

A screen shot of the 2 Canvas menusWhen accessing Canvas on a computer, there are two menus on the side of the screen.

From left to right, the first menu - with the blue background and icons - is called the Global Navigation menu. This menu is the same for every user in Canvas and cannot be changed.

The next menu - with the white background and blue links - is called the Course Navigation menu. This menu varies by course because instructors can, and should, modify this menu.

As a best practice, you should remove links for tools you are not using in class from the Course Navigation menu.

Please note:

Links for the Accessibility Report, TidyUP, and New Analytics are NOT visible to students.

The link to Concourse Syllabus MUST be visible on the Course Navigation menu.
