Every ten years, SJR State’s accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) is reaffirmed through a process of self-study and external peer review to ensure that we are continuing to meet the highest educational standards.
It is time for us to begin initial preparations for our next reaffirmation which is scheduled for Fall 2023. SJR State is committed to continuous improvement, and this reaffirmation process is an opportunity for us to both reflect on our strengths and, more importantly, commit energies and resources to areas we wish to improve. Key to this process is the selection and development of a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) that focuses on a specific project to support and improve student learning and/or success. Our last QEP, Conquer Math, greatly impacted both our faculty and students across the College through the introduction of new teaching methods and technologies and the creation and funding of our Academic Support Centers. The goal of our next QEP will be to select a topic that is equally impactful to SJR State.
In the weeks to come, you will be hearing more about the QEP from Dr. Edward Jordan. I encourage you to be engaged in the topic selection process and to share your ideas as your input is both valued and needed. All employees interested in proposing ideas for the QEP are encouraged to attend one of the QEP Forums (dates coming soon) or to reach out to Dr. Edward Jordan.
I look forward to learning more about your ideas for this important college project.
Sincerely,
Joe H. Pickens, J.D.

About the QEP Process
The Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) is part of SACSCOC's reaffirmation process. The QEP is submitted by the College "six weeks in advance of the On-Site Reaffirmation Review Committee, is (1) a topic identified through ongoing, comprehensive and evaluation processes, (2) has a broad-based support of institutional constituencies, (3) focuses on improving specific student learning outcomes and/or student successes, (4) commits resources to initiate, implement The Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement 9 and complete the QEP, and (5) includes a plan to assess achievement. The plan should be focused and succinct (no more than 75 pages of narrative text and no more than 25 pages of support documentation or charts, graphs, and tables)." (SACSCOC Reaffirmation Process)
SACSCOC team members will evaluate SJR State's QEP using the evaluative framework provided by SACSCOC.

Not Another QEP!?! SJR State and the Continuous Improvement Cycle
On the heels of a recently closed-out and productive Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) effort, SJR State is beginning preliminary planning for its next QEP endeavor. This session explores the mechanics of developing a new QEP, looking at a number of strategies related to committee selection, topic selection, data determination and targets/timeline development. The session also reflects back on some of the strengths, observations and advancements from the college's previous QEP effort.
