What if you could implement in your classes a simple strategy to decrease withdrawal rates and increase success rates for all students in your classes? This session takes a look at a recent SACSCOC presentation by Odessa College (TX) that produced significant changes in the college's withdrawal and course success rates. By identifying the strategies that instructors with low withdrawal rates incorporated into their classes and by implementing a college-wide strategy to expand on those strategies, Odessa College was able to move the needle for success for student populations that faculty often had misconceptions about. Across all types of classroom environments and accounting for differing types of student issues, Odessa was able to affect positive change by improving connections between faculty members and students. This session will explore these strategies and the impacts they could have at SJR State.
