How to Create Accessible Content

The easiest way to make sure your course content is accessible is to include the 7 Pillars right from the start. Here are some simple ways to do that:

  • Use the accessibility checker in the Rich Content Editor (RCE) as you add content. Visit How do I use the Accessibility Checker in the Rich Content Editor as an instructor? for complete instructions.
  • Using DesignPLUS to create or format content? There is an accessibility tool tab in DesignPLUS.
  • Include alt-text for all images. For complicated images, try having ChatGPT or another AI toll generate the alt-text for you.
    • For stand-alone images in Canvas, add the alt-text using the Canvas image tool or the Cidi Labs Upload/Embed Image tool (in the RCE tools bar under plugins).
    • Images in a PowerPoint or Word document need to have the alt-text added in the Office app used to create the content.
  • Use Studio to auto-generate closed captions for videos (including YouTube videos).
